Bill is a graduate of Davidson College and Tulane University School of Law where he was on the Law Review, serving one year as Articles Editor. He has successfully tried and otherwise resolved a variety of litigation in the state and federal courts across Texas. These include cases for major manufacturers, contractors and owners, energy companies, lenders and creditors, as well as health care and other professionals. Bill has also successfully handled claims involving issues of trademark violation, ERISA, and employment law. He has represented lawyers and other parties in fiduciary duty litigation; and businesses, their principals or advisors in a variety of commercial litigation.

Bill was one of the trial counsel in, and successfully handled the appeal of, a case of importance to the Texas energy industry. In a case of first impression, the court of appeals applied Chapter 95, Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code, a Texas tort reform measure, to an oil and gas operator which held mineral leases, holding that the operator was an “owner” of property for Chapter 95 purposes. The court also discussed the role of the “company man,” as the term is used in the industry, and the limits of the operator’s liability for the fault of its independent contractor “company man.”

Bill is licensed in both Texas and Louisiana. He is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both Civil Trial Law and Personal Injury Trial Law, and is also board certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He has been elected by his peers to an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates and has also been recognized by his peers through Law and Politics as a “Texas Super Lawyer.” Bill has extensive experience in teaching trial skills to young lawyers as a faculty member associated with the University of Houston Law Center’s Advanced Civil Trial Advocacy Institute.

Bill is admitted to the United States District Courts throughout Texas, to the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, to the United States Court of Federal Claims, and to the United States Supreme Court. He has an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell and received the highest grade on the November 1976 Texas Bar Examination.

Bill is active in a variety of professional and community organizations. He served for four years (1999-2003) as a City Council Member of the City of Bunker Hill Village, Texas and for a year before that as a member of that city’s Planning and Zoning Commission. He is a member of the Advisory Council of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Houston, having served as Chairman in 2005-2006. He is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Houston where he has held various positions, including President during 2003-2004. Bill is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Defense Research Institute and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.
