Gary J. Ilagan was born in Chicago and has lived in the Houston area since 1982. He earned his B.A. in French and Political Science from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law. He is licensed in Texas and has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Since 2000 Gary has been Board Certified in Immigration and Nationality Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also a member of the College of the State Bar of Texas. He was named a "Texas Rising Star" in immigration law for 2004, 2005 and 2008 by Texas Monthly and Law & Politics. Gary was also named one of “Houston’s Top Lawyers for the People” in 2008 by H Texas Magazine.

Gary devotes his practice to family and employment-based immigration, with special emphasis on the immigration of foreign healthcare workers, such as Doctors, Registered Nurses, Physical Therapists, and other allied health professionals. He currently serves on the National Healthcare Professionals Committee (2008-2009) of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and he is a member of the AILA-Houston Chapter’s liaison committee with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. For the past several years, Gary has been a Mentor to other AILA members in the areas of healthcare immigration and consular procedures at the U.S. Embassy in Manila, Philippines.

Gary currently serves as Legal Advisor for the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce of Texas and in 2004 he served as President of the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce-Houston Chapter. Gary is a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation, and he is a recipient of the Houston Bar Association President's Award for Outstanding Service as Co-Chair of the Lawyers for Literacy Committee. He is also a member of the Houston World Affairs Council, Asia Society, Asian American Bar Association and Texas Association for Health Care Recruitment. Gary speaks frequently about immigration law at continuing legal education as well as community and business-related seminars. He is proficient in French and understands basic Tagalog (Pilipino). Gary and his wife, Jereza, are the proud parents of three wonderful girls.
